Former shadow housing minister tables 16 questions about Right to Buy
Labour MP Emma Reynolds has tabled no fewer than 16 questions in the Commons about the extension of Right to Buy to housing association tenants.
Reynolds is currently shadow for Communities and Local Government, and in the last administration was shadow housing minister.
Her questions reveal the extent of Labour’s opposition to Tory plans for extending Right to Buy, which would enable housing association tenants to purchase their homes at a 20% discount.
Her questions include asking the Secretary of State for CLG how many tenants are estimated as likely to take up this right in each of the next five years; what consultation there will be before enactment; what assessment has been made on the extension of Right to Buy on the future financial viability of housing associations; and how much extending the scheme will cost taxpayers.
Separately, Cambridge MP, Labour’s Daniel Zeichner, has also asked questions of the Secretary of State for CLG.
Zeichner has asked whether the department has a mechanism in place to monitor whether foreign buyers of UK property are occupants, landlords, UK business owners or absentee property investors.
He has also asked for an estimate of the value of UK property sold to foreign buyers between 2010 and 2015.
